Is
that time again when thousands of Rotary Clubs all over the world
install a new President, our club is no exception and on Monday our
President for the past year handed over the office
to Martin Leech, at the same time Martin handed over the Vice
Presidency to Graham Johnson.
Club Secretary David paid
several compliments to outgoing President John during his
VALEDICTORY speech as he chose to call it, quite what a valedictory
speech was supposed to be no-one knew, but we all agreed with the
sentiments he expressed and were pleased to applaud his leadership.
John admitted that his somewhat
bewildered reaction to his duties was an act developed of many years
of teaching in order to facilitate cunning delegation.
We look forward to Martin’s term
of office with great expectation, we are sure he will have just as
successful as year as did John.
Graham will be anticipating his
year in twelve months time, and no doubt he will have to stand in
for Martin on occasion.
We welcomed Honorary Member Wynn
Humphreys and visiting Rotarian Basil Morrison from the Altringham
Rotary Club.
As we had no speaker and no
other business of note the evening came a close at an unprecedented
9:30pm
P.S. David has supplied the
following definition:
“Valedictory” = Adjective:
Serving as a farewell [Oxford English dictionary] as if we
didn't know!

Criccieth Fun Day where we raised over £1,880 for local Rotary
Charities, everyone agreed that it was a success in spite of the
hurricane (sic) force winds that we experienced on the day.
On the day musical entertainment was provided by Carl Jackson and

As always the Cake stall was well attended, as was the "Smash a

continuous and enthusiastic support to the club's activities for the

member is appreciated by the club and by Rotary, - Well done Bill.

"Burns Night
The Club celebrated Burns
Night at Porthmadog Golf Club on Friday January 25th, where they
were joined by a large group of golfers.
The company was welcomed by Club President John Churchill, who
proposed the toast to “The Immortal Bard”.
After this, Mr Montgomery-Clift piped in the haggis and the
Brave-heart kilted Mr Walter McMeeken addressed (and stabbed) the
“Great Chieftan o' the Puddin'-race!” An excellent and traditional
meal followed, interspersed with humorous anecdotes from Mr Martin
Leech (also sporting full Highland dress).
After the meal, Mr Harold Heys rose to propose the toast to the
“Lassies” and Mrs Jean Atherton replied on their behalf.
“Dangerous Age” awaited the diners in the lounge and
succeeded in persuading a significant proportion of the guests onto
the dance floor. Mr Montgomery-Clift inflated his bagpipes to
enhance the Scottish atmosphere by playing a medley of traditional
airs while the dancers rested. A most enjoyable evening!" |
Barbara is the
wife of one of our members Harold Heys, congratulations to
Barbara.
